Hello Katharine Mary

K: After keeping Mummy and Daddy waiting a few days (especially because everyone said I should be early) I was born on Saturday 25th September just after lunchtime. I was born in a nice warm pool of water and didn't really want to get out. I was also bigger than the midwives predicted, at 7lb11. I gave Mummy and Daddy a bit of a scare by stopping breathing about half an hour after I was born (just as Mummy tried to give me a feed) but other than that all seemed pretty good. After being born I gazed about a bit and said hello to Mummy and Daddy and then I did rather a lot of sleeping.

F: Just like in all my books about new babies, Granny Mary came to look after me while Mummy and Daddy went off. But they didn't go to the hospital - I announced proudly that they had gone to the 'birth centre'. I even told nursery (earlier) that Mummy was going to push the baby out between her legs, which they were a bit amazed by. Granny Mary took me to Colourstrings and then to her house, which I always like. Then, after my nap, she took me to the birth centre and I said hello to Baby Katharine.

She is very small. She sleeps a lot and has milk from Mummy's nipples. I also held her hand. She also gave me a present - it is a robot and I like it very much indeed, and can make it go. She also gave me a book of poems about cats for when I am a bit older which has her name written in it and everything. I am very pleased that Mummy has done as I asked and provided a baby sister, although I am a bit disappointed that we haven't called her Robert, which is the name that I preferred.

Then Daddy came home to give me supper and read my stories but Mummy stayed at the Birth Centre for one night. We went to get her in the morning though, and brought Baby Katy home too. Then Granny Jenny came to see us, which was lovely. She brought me a present too - some sticker books, which I started on straight away (as well as a marble run which came by post later, and which I love).

Anyway so far Baby Katy seems ok, although she takes up a lot of Mummy and Daddy's time. I like holding her, and holding her hand. And I have learnt the baby sign language for 'sister' and sign 'I love my sister' which makes Mummy go all wobbly. Sucker.
